The Easiest Way To Stay Hydrated

June 16, 2016

DSC_1089Just being honest here when I say that drinking water bores me to death. Yeah, yeah, I know – it’s important for a healthy body and complexion, etc. but that was never enough to get me to drink more. I used to live my life in a state of chronic dehydration, with every doctor and esthetician tsk-tsking me when I fessed up and told them the honest truth. MY BAD.

However, in the past few months I’ve changed my ways. I actually like staying hydrated and enjoy the benefits of clearer skin, clearer mind, and more energy. I’ve incorporated a few tricks into my routine to change my behavior and ultimately get me to drink more water. Read on for the easiest ways to stay hydrated from a reformed dehydrant.

I’m sure I’m not the only person who hates the taste of water straight from the tap. I grew up in Maine, and our local tap water was the best in the country (#shamelessbrag). Sorry California, but your tap water cannot compare. Not only is drinking filtered water more tasty, it’s better for the environment than plastic bottles. I’ve been using the SOMA water filter pitcher for a few months and love it. It gets the job done and looks pretty on the table!

Use an app.

I recently started using Waterlogged, an app that helps you track how much water you drink every day. I set my goal at 64 oz. of water a day, which may be peanuts to some, but is actually a lot more than I used to drink. I set reminders in the app, which go off throughout the day reminding me to drink and track my water intake. You can also track other beverages you drink, but they don’t count toward your ounces goal for the day. I’m hoping I can build up the amount of water I drink daily and eventually get my goal to over 100 ounces.

It’s a solid fact that people drink more when they’re drinking through a straw! I like to have these stripy paper straws on hand to drink from at all times. It’s fun and drinking water from them doesn’t feel like a chore!

Choose a vessel you enjoy.

This tip sounds SO dumb, but I swear that drinking out a container you like makes it so much easier and more pleasant to stay hydrated. Whether it’s a water bottle, glass, or mason jar, find a vessel that is functional, aesthetically pleasing, and easy to keep with you at all times. We recently picked up these super thin and lightweight glasses from CB2 and I LOVE drinking from them because they make me feel fancy. I’ve also been tempted to buy myself a MemoBottle to easily slip into my purse when I’m on the go.
