I really hope you clicked into this article thinking “OMG no… should I be?!” after reading the title, because this post is for you. Sleeping on a silk pillowcase is something that every person should experience. From softer, healthier hair to clearer skin, there are so many benefits to sleeping on silk. What what are you waiting for?
Tell me more.
Sleeping on silk does incredible things for your hair. I’ve been sleeping on a silk pillowcase (this one, if you’re curious) for about 6 months and have definitely noticed a difference in the shininess and softness of my hair. Gone are my Medusa mornings – I now wake up to healthy, bouncy waves and I’m not kidding. Silk reduces the amount of friction on your hair as you toss and turn throughout the night, so you wake up to less breakage, dullness, and frizziness.
Sleeping on silk does incredible things for your skin. We spend 8 hours a night with our faces pressed against a pillow. Sleep wrinkles are real and they’re coming for ya. Silk helps the delicate facial skin retain its moisture. Unlike cotton (an absorbent fiber that draws moisture), silk will not absorb natural moisture from your face (and hair!). I’ve been waking up to healthier, more luminous-looking skin, and I know it’s not just to the credit of my skincare regimen.
Your pillow is always on the cool side. Silk is a natural heat regulator that helps maintain the correct body temperature, and doesn’t conduct heat or static electricity like other fibers (looking at you, cotton). It will keep you refreshingly cool in the summer and perfectly warm in the winter. No need to flip to the cool side of the pillow anymore!
It straight up feels luxurious. There, I said it. Sleeping on a silk pillowcase will make you feel like an Egyptian queen. Is there anything more fabulous than that?
Just being honest here when I say that drinking water bores me to death. Yeah, yeah, I know – it’s important for a healthy body and complexion, etc. but that was never enough to get me to drink more. I used to live my life in a state of chronic dehydration, with every doctor and esthetician tsk-tsking me when I fessed up and told them the honest truth. MY BAD.
However, in the past few months I’ve changed my ways. I actually like staying hydrated and enjoy the benefits of clearer skin, clearer mind, and more energy. I’ve incorporated a few tricks into my routine to change my behavior and ultimately get me to drink more water. Read on for the easiest ways to stay hydrated from a reformed dehydrant.
Sawyer had a 62-mile bike race down in Santa Cruz this weekend, so we headed down midday on Saturday to spend some time exploring and enjoying the coast. We went down to the boardwalk and played mini golf (I won, but we both were fairly terrible lol), and then met up with my brother, Kyle, for dinner later in the evening. We went to a casual Italian restaurant which happened to have a live show during dinnertime – the waitstaff sang and danced and did tricks with spinning pizza dough! It was an unexpected surprise and made the meal even more enjoyable.
On Sunday morning, I filmed this little ‘get ready with me’ video at our Air BnB, which was a gorgeous multi-bedroom home in the heart of Santa Cruz. Kyle and I had lunch together and spent a bit of time on the beach in the afternoon while Sawyer was on his bike ride.
I love this look for a casual + carefree summer weekend spent on the coast! Throw on a pretty sundress, a pair of cute sandals, and minimal makeup – and don’t forget your swimsuit!
I know it sounds bananas when I say that podcasts changed my life. But, they did. By simply pressing “download” before leaving my apartment in the morning, I am guaranteed entertainment for a hefty chunk of time. There’s no feet being dragged to the BART station. In fact, I actually look forward to hopping on the train and standing for 45 minutes with my face in someone else’s armpit. My favorite podcast, and one that particularly hit home (literally, she lives in my hometown), is Millennial.
Millennial is a podcast that documents what people never teach you – how to maneuver your 20s (something we can all relate to). It’s brought to you by host and producer, Megan Tan, who records what it’s like to be a present-day millennial in real time.
I sat down with Megan, #girlboss extrordinaire and self-starter, to chat about how she got into podcasting, the challenges she faces, and what we can expect from her in the future.
